I had a lovely weekend. Saturday, I spent the day cleaning and getting ready for my performance. I even managed to vacuum the living room and dining room; however, when I got to my bedroom, the long blonde hair on the carpet managed to tie up my vacuum in knots. Always fun when you lay the vacuum on it's side and smoke is coming out the bottom.

I managed to pick Bob up at the airport even after hitting every light and taking the wrong exit. (Since I drive that freeway all the time, you'd think I'd know the way.) We stopped for gas and food, then went straight to the studio, where [livejournal.com profile] cyndtechgoddess's son battened on to him as an adult who would actually pay him attention.

Because of the flu epidemic going around here hitting some of the dancers, I got asked (along with a couple others) if I could do a second solo. Troupe mom didn't have a number for me, so I didn't know about this until I got there. She gave me her mega–album of CDs to leaf through and see if there was any music there I knew. I think this was one of those serendipitous things – while I was considering doing a normal cabaret schtick, I noticed she had Santana's "Supernatural". I've danced many times at home to "Put Your Lights On", possibly one of my favorite songs to dance to. But I'm not sure you would really call it Belly Dancing – I call it Briana dancing. It's what I've done most of my life. So I decided that would be my second solo.

I did a gypsy style for my first solo – I actually partially choreographed this one. Usually I just improvise. I have a good vocabulary in this style, but tend to forget it when performing. I didn't want to do that this time. Then after intermission, I did the second solo. I had brought two costumes since I didn't want to wear my gypsy for the troupe routine, so I switched to that for the second solo. Thus I was having costume issues when the Sultan started announcing me and missed putting on the belt. But that worked, because I did floor work and this belt really wouldn't have worked.

The second solo came out just about perfect. It just flowed, like the dance just existed separately from me, and I just put it on and snuggled in. I stumbled a time or two because I just didn't have the strength to recover from a move, but I think I even managed to stumble in time to the music. And Bob was massively impressed.

BTW, Bob really enjoyed the whole show! (although he thought I was best, neener, neener)

Sunday, we woke up late and went for money and breakfast. Then we stopped at Market Square to get lunches for Bob and to let me show him how cool this place it. I don't think I've mentioned this before – this is a new store that has a wonderful selection, including all sorts of gourmet products. Not whatever is "in" right now; all sorts of goodies I've never seen. Great cheese selection. We ended up spending a couple of hours there just looking at the nifty stuff, picking up goodies and talking about food. And they have nanaimo bars(a vancouver area bar cookie) One of the ways we match well – we like shopping for nifty foods. We ended up spending 80 bucks just on goodies. Then we went home, unloaded stuff and Bob relaxed while I dabbled at chores. Mid–afternoon we had a snack of crackers and nibbles of the four(!) different cheeses we had bought.

We had supper at Moms, and after supper I was once again reminded how lucky I am to have found this guy. The guest bathroom overflowed and Mark and Carol jumped in to fix it. Now, my ex would have refused to do anything, and would have castigated me for helping (oo, that's dirty you know!). But Bob jumped in right after Mark and Carol and helped where he could. I couldn't even do anything (except comfort Mom, it's been a hard autumn on her). Then Bob went around and tried to straighten out a lot of the picture frames. *giggle*

Now Bob's waiting for me at home, while I finish up my last few minutes at work. *sigh* I will be so happy when this is all the time and not just for one week.

Oh man - I LOVE that song! So sensual... I bet you looked *great*!

Sigh - I need to find someone who teaches belly dancing in this area...
